Premium Wordpress Theme Roundup

While I don't believe that designers for hire should be using Wordpress templates designed by somebody else for their clients' projects, I can understand the desire to have a really appealing website for a pet project or family friend who wants a quick blog and low cost. I've round up five websites that offer quality Wordpress themes that focus on aesthetics on their own website, (which isn't always the case) and in their premium themes. DIYTHEMEWhile DIYTHEMES is not really a premium design theme, it offers you flexibility like no other theme I've found in my travels thus far. In the pricing department, it's available for personal use at $87, and ...

Smashing Wallpaper

october As promised, however I do apologize for the lateness of this post seeing as we're now halfway through October, I'm now making all of the calendar sizes available publicly. Go to http://www.mediafire.com/duckydesign and you can choose your wallpaper size and whether or not you want it to have the calendar. I am happy to announce however that my wallpaper was featured on Smashing Magazine's website. So many thanks to the Smashing Magazine team for featuring me in October!

How to be More Creative

Be CreativeWhile this isn't really design related, this can be the complete downfall of your work flow. If you're like me, you've got a crappy chair that you constantly shift uncomfortably around in. This may have to do that I work in a basement office and my feet freeze which is why I'm always pulling them up onto the chair, however my chair needs to be retired. Immediately retired. So I did a little bit of research and came up with a couple of chairs that seem to be well reviewed.

Objectified

xtrabold

Alright, so I know that the above image is not of the Objectified poster. In fact it has nothing to do with the documentary by Gary Huswitz. The image is however, courtesy of XTRABOLD, and it made me fondly remember that I needed to pre-order my special edition Blu-ray disc of Objectified. That's right folks! It's now being made for Blu-Ray although Gary at first said that there were too many issues with making it so.

Before I forget, I do however encourage you to take a peek over at XTRABOLD - great work!

Coca Cola Can Concept

CocaCola Can

Alright, bear with me here: found this beautifully packaged Coca-Cola can concept via Brian Hoff from a post on TheDieline.com thanks to an ingenious Dzmitry Samal. Got that? Good. Let's keep going.

Listen world; I understand something very clear right now, crystal clear. We're in a recession. My answer to that you may or may not care to hear is this - spend some damn money you tight fisted penny-pinchers!

But I'll be fair... who better to get the ball rolling than large corporations? And, oh, I don't know, why not pick on Coca-Cola for a moment? The above design has ...

Smashing Calendar Wallpaper Peekaboo

preview

Well, who knows whether or not I'll be picked for Smashing Magazine's upcoming monthly wallpaper calendar contest? What I do know is that I'm posting a preview of it here for everyone to take a look-see (see above).

If you'd like to download it, let me know and I'll start putting up links for the available sizes sooner rather than later. I will have the links up by the end of September so that you're ready to roll in style for the new month.

Knock Knock

knock

For a great example of clean design and great use of typography, I present to you dear reader Knock Knock. They're products are well made, functional and they all have a pretty witty slant to them. If you haven't heard of them before, you can find their online presence at KnockKnock.biz

Their product line consists of a wide range of products, but for a general idea of what to expect, they have To-Do lists, reusable totes, file folders, even naughty lovers vouchers.

Get ready to smile and maybe find some early holiday season shopping ideas....

The Favicon

iPhone Favicon

Something that tends to bother me are the finishing touches that so many great websites seem to neglect - the favicon. I know, it may seem trivial, but something trivial can actually make a huge difference to someone looking through a bunch of bookmarks. And it's ridiculously easy to whip them up. For the very lazy, bookmark this link into your Delicious account: http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/ It's an online service allowing you to take an image and turn it into a favicon without having to use software on your computer or add a plug-in to Photoshop or some other messy business. And while we're at it, we might as ...
